Where is Mou Waho Island, and why should you visit? Nestled in Lake Wanaka, this island is one of New Zealand's most unique destinations. Often described as an "island, in a lake, on an island, in a lake, on an island in the ocean," it might sound a bit confusing—but let us simplify it for you. As part of your private Mou Waho Jet Ski Tour, you'll have the exclusive experience of visiting the hidden Arethusa Pool, a serene lake atop the island reached by a scenic 30-minute hike.

At the summit, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the island, with breathtaking 360-degree vistas of Lake Wanaka and the majestic surrounding mountains, which mark the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park. Your private tour includes around 90 minutes on the island, allowing you to explore this pristine nature reserve.

Mou Waho Island is managed by the Department of Conservation and has been cleared of invasive pests like rats, stoats, and possums, creating a sanctuary for New Zealand's native birdlife. Expect to see native species such as the New Zealand falcon, wood pigeon, and buff weka thriving in their natural habitat.

While most visitors reach Mou Waho Island by boat, a private jet ski tour offers the added thrill of driving your own jet ski, allowing you to explore the lake at your own pace. All our Mou Waho Tours are private with the ability to take 1 - 4 jet skis with a maximum of 8 guests. Due to the island's location, we require participants to have prior jet skiing experience and be confident on the water. If you're new to jet skiing, we recommend joining our 1-hour jet ski tour before embarking on the private tour.

CUSTOMERS NEED TO BRING:

• ID (for the jet ski rental forms)
• Clothing that can get wet and suitable for the weather (A windbreaker or waterproof jacket is recommended on cooler days)
• Sunglasses (recommended)

WE PROVIDE: 

• Life jackets
• Wetsuits if required (weather dependant)
• Operation instructions

RESTRICTIONS:

• The minimum age to drive is 18 years old
• The recommended age for children to ride as passengers is 8 years and above. 
• Customers need to fully understand English and be able to follow all instructions given by guides & staff
• The maximum combined weight for our jet skis is 230kg.
